Auburn Tigers at Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview
The 2019 college football season has been rolling along, and Week 4 has us poised for some big matchups. These matchups will have a lot of influence on the College Football Playoff, and teams are continually trying to build their resumes every week.
One afternoon matchup has the No. 8 Auburn Tigers traveling to the 12th man to take on the 17th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies. A top-25 matchup between two heavyweight programs will have all eyes focused on it.
Game time: Saturday 9/21 at 3:30pm
Let’s take a week at the two teams.
Is Auburn Best In The SEC West?
The Auburn Tigers started this season facing a lot of uncertainty. They came into week one starting a true freshman at quarterback against a nationally-ranked Oregon Ducks team, who many had as their Pac-12 favorites.
The Tigers got down early in that game but clawed their way back in the fourth quarter as Bo Nix led them on a go-ahead touchdown drive with less than two minutes left.
Auburn held on and secured the victory 27-21 and began their march to a possible dream season. The next two weeks brought one-sided victories over Tulane and Kent State, and the Tigers are looking at making a run.
Besides his miracle fourth-quarter drive, Nix has been underwhelming at quarterback. Luckily for the Tigers, the running game has been as strong as ever.
Running back JaTarvious Whitlow has already rushed for 341 yards and three touchdowns this season. Whitlow has all the intangibles for the position and will likely finish as one of the top rushers of the 2019 season.
Can A&M Ever Make It Over The Hump?
Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, and since then, they have felt like the little brother of all the other SEC teams. That was all set to change with Jimbo Fisher taking over their program, but it still feels like the Aggies haven’t made it over the hump.
The Aggies boast one of the best offenses in the country but really have not been able to make it on to the scene nationally.
Kellen Mond has had an extraordinary season so far, throwing for 747 yards and five touchdowns. Mond leads the Aggies offense and has been able to carry over his success from last season.
The highlight matchup from Texas A&M’s games has been their contest against Clemson. The Aggies struggled in this game against the No. 1 team in the country but were able to not let it get out of hand.
Their defense held up well against Trevor Lawrence and the high-powered Clemson offense, and this was a positive look for the Aggies.
The Aggies open this game as the favorite at home at -4. This betting line comes as a surprise as Auburn has a big victory on its resume against the Oregon Ducks.
Regardless, the Aggies do have one heck of a home-field advantage with the 12th man. Mond has been special his past 10 games, and both of these factors are likely why Texas A&M opens up as the favorite.
I still think Auburn is the team to bet on this season. It seems like every year we have a team that was on the fringe of being good that finishes much better than we expected.
The Auburn Tigers are that team in the 2019 season. Nix will continually improve as the season progresses, and Whitlow will keep dominating the season.
Take Auburn at +4 on the road. Their run game will continue to carry them against this Aggies defense. Make sure you lock in your bets before kickoff!
