BetMGM Latest Operator to Launch in New York
The BetMGM Sportsbook app has joined the current group of NY mobile betting apps and operators that are live in New York. BetMGM goes live in the Empire State nine days after the synchronized launch of New York’s first four betting sites: DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, and BetRivers.
BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt described the news as “monumental.” He said that BetMGM will now be able to “fully activate our relationships with MGM Resorts’ Empire City Casino.” Greenblatt added that they are excited to offer customers in New York “unique experiences that they can’t access on any other platform.” He was also keen to express thanks to the New York Gaming Commission and the entire BetMGM team, who have worked hard behind the scenes to get to this point.
BetMGM is the first operator to launch in the Empire State that has not directly partnered with a New York casino; however, that shouldn’t be an issue for the market-leading brand. To this end, BetMGM signed an official partnership agreement with Madison Square Garden Sports, who are the parent company of the New York Rangers and New York Knicks. BetMGM will have exposure inside MSG and across its digital properties per the terms of the deal.
BetMGM Gives Operators Nine-Day Head Start in NY
The big unknown for BetMGM is, will the nine-day head start cause them problems? Industry analysts have reported that the company has performed better in markets where it’s a first mover.
But unlike in other markets where early mover benefits have lasted months, in New York, the first-mover advantage of FanDuel, DraftKings, BetRivers, and Caesars is only nine days.
E&K Gaming noted that BetMGM has pre-seeded the New York market with heavy advertising during the first week of January, with a 6% ad-share, even though it wasn’t active.
Additionally, BetMGM is one of the most well-known and trusted operators in the US. Unlike its competitors, it is the only casino brand that has been competitive with the ‘big two’ sports betting giants of FanDuel and DraftKings. Therefore, BetMGM should make an immediate impact in the New York sports wagering market, despite giving up a nine-day advantage. With excellent features like cash out and the BetMGM one game parlay, the book is sure to be a hit with New Yorkers.
More Operators to Enter New York
With the launch of BetMGM, New Yorkers have five sports betting apps to choose from BetRivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel.
Four more operators are waiting on final approval from the New York State Gaming Commission: BallyBet, Resorts World, PointsBet, and WynnBET.
