Chicago Bears announce a partnership with PointsBet
The Chicago Bears have announced that they have reached an agreement with global sportsbook operator PointsBet, which will see the operator become their first official sports betting partner. PointsBet recently launched its gambling platform in Illinois, and this agreement will strengthen its presence in the state. This news builds on a string of partnerships recently announced by PointsBet with several professional and college teams.
The company has built a solid foundation across the United States and is continuing to expand its operations. This new partnership follows other deals the operator has made with the Colts, Buffaloes, and the PGA Tour.
PointsBet gets Access to Bears Marketing & Brings Legend on Board
As part of the agreement, PointsBet can use official Bears logos, stats, and information as part of their marketing material. Additionally, the sports betting operator will also benefit from other sponsorship opportunities with the Chicago Bears, and they can promote their brand through the Bear’s digital channels. This will give PointsBet huge exposure as the Bears have a massive following across their social media accounts.
Chicago Bears President & CEO Ted Phillips stated that the franchise “couldn’t be more excited” to welcome PointsBet as an official partner. He also said that the partnership would give fans new ways and methods of interacting and cheering on the team.
As COVID-19 brought sports to a standstill and significantly altered the NFL’s immediate landscape, the Bears spotted the potential for fan engagement. PointsBet will be an attractive option for Bears fans as they will offer the best prices on games for the season’s duration. The Aussie based bookmaker will also release weekly promotions which revolve around the team.
As well as reaching an agreement with the team, PointsBet has also signed up a Bears legend as a promoter in a smart move. Devin Hester as agreed to promote the sportsbook and those who follow the Bears will be familiar with the former kick returner, who is revered in the state of Illinois. In a wise marketing move, PointsBet wanted to bring Hester on board as his kick returning style is reminiscent of the PointsBet mobile app’s functionality: quick and easy.
The operator has recently launched its PointsBet mobile app in Illinois and will also have a large retail presence. The Hawthorne Racecourse will act as the top retail sports betting location. On top of the Hawthorne retail sportsbook, PointsBet will also introduce retail sports betting at three other off-track betting sites in the Chicagoland area.
The proximity to Chicago was another factor the partnership between the Bears and PointsBet works for both.
More NFL Teams Enter Sports Betting Market
At the beginning of the year, the NFL (National Football League) announced that teams could arrange partnerships with sports betting operators. This was a complete turnaround from previous resistance to the betting industry, and now the NFL is looking to capitalize on the gambling market.
The first team to announce a sports betting deal was the Denver Broncos, who have partnered with both FanDuel and BetMGM for the current 2020 season. FanDuel provides Daily fantasy sports (DFS) games specific to the Broncos as part of that agreement.
At the start of this month, the Detroit Lions announced their own deal with BetMGM, in what is a multi-year agreement. Like Chicago, Detroit is a rapidly growing betting market, which will only continue as more partnerships like these are announced.
