Drew Brees takes Global Ambassador role at PointsBet
NFL Legend Drew Brees has joined PoinsBet in a Global Ambassador role.
Legendary NFL quarterback Drew Brees is joining sports gambling company PointsBet as its “global brand ambassador.” The deal will see Brees become a significant shareholder with an equity stake in the betting operator, PointsBet revealed this week. There is added interest with Brees joining PointsBet as the future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, who retired last season, will be embarking upon a broadcasting career with NBC Sports. PointsBet was named as the official sports betting partner of NBC sports last year.
Details of Partnership
One of the objectives for Brees will be to star in and help develop original content for PointsBet, in addition to participating in watch parties. The former QB will also be involved in creating marketing and promotional concepts.
Brees said that he is “excited to team up with PointsBet” and described the company as a “leader in the future of sports entertainment built off elite technology.” He acknowledged the growth of sports betting across the country and said he is “proud” to be at the forefront with NBC Sports and PointsBet.
Brees will be an NFL studio analyst for Football Night in America with NBC Sports. Additionally, he will work as a game analyst for Notre Dame football and also be involved in coverage of other major events such as Super Bowl LVI and the Olympics.
Australian-based company PointsBet has emerged as a serious challenger to the likes of BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings. The company now offers sports betting in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, New Jersey, Michigan, and Colorado.
Johnny Aitken, PointsBet USA CEO, said on the day of the announcement that it was a “massive day for our company” as Drew Brees joined the PointsBet family. Aitken said that Brees is “renowned for his tireless work ethic” and mentioned the great success he achieved in his NFL career, embracing the “win-at-all-costs mentality that embodies PointsBet’s DNA.”
Perks for PointsBet
By becoming a partner of NBC Sports, PointsBet can reach audiences through multiple NBC Sports platforms, including gameday integrations across NBC Sports Regional Networks. Additionally, PointsBet’s full Spanish-language functionality will mean Hispanic sports fans can access content through Telemundo Deportes and Telemundo broadcast stations.
The PointsBet and NBC Sports deal is a significant one for the industry. Some of the financial details include a committed marketing spend of $393 million over the five years of the agreement and incentives paid to NBCUniversal for customer referrals.
In return, PointsBet will benefit from being the exclusive provider of props, odds, and trends for NBCSN and Golf Channel in addition to Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming service. PointsBet is also the official partner of the NBC Sports Predictor app, which boasts over 1.1 million downloads. PointsBet odds will also be used for Rotoworld, NBC Sports’ daily fantasy and sports betting digital property.
