Iowa continues to post impressive sports betting handle
Iowa Posts Record Handle for Third Straight Month
Iowa sports wagering set a record for handle for the third straight month. The Hawkeye State accepted $287.2 million in bets during November, an increase of 2.3% from the previous record of $280.9 million. Additionally, this was up 229.5% than November 2020s $87.2 million. The online space also saw a significant increase, with the total online handle for Iowa in November a record at $260.4 million. This was a 4.2% increase from October’s previous high of $249.9 million.
In November, the sports betting revenue was also a record, with figures coming in at $19.7 million. This was an increase of 201.2% from October’s $6.6 million and 142.5% from the same period last year. The previous revenue record in Iowa came in March 2021, when the state took in $13.5 million.
State taxes from November sports wagering totaled $2.1 million, 301% higher than October’s $514,642. This was also a hefty 275% jump from November 2020s $549,726. All 19 casinos in Iowa have online and retail sports betting. Casino Queen Marquette is the newest facility to add sports betting.
Return of Sporting Action Boosts Betting Activity
Iowa has seen a new sports betting handle for three straight months. The boost in September came from the from the kick-off of the regular NFL regular season and the continuation of college football. In October, the increased sports wagering activity can be attributed to the start of the NHL and NBA regular seasons, while November saw the college basketball season get underway.
There is also the potential for new sports betting records to be set in December, with wagering on college football bowls heading into January and the regularly scheduled NFL, NHL, and NBA games.
Fubo Sportsbook has been Live for a month
November was the first whole month of operations for Fubo Sportsbook in Iowa. The brand launched its new sportsbook on November 3. Its app allows bettors in the state to wager on the move and in its integrated fuboTV streaming platform.
Fubo has secured market access in the state through a deal with Casino Queen.
