The NFC West has arguably been the most competitive division in football this season. The Seattle Seahawks just took over the top spot in the NFC, and the San Francisco 49ers can still take it from them.
We will see the 49ers in action this Saturday night in primetime when the Los Angeles Rams come to town.
Both of these teams are coming off agonizing losses, so let’s break down the matchup between these two teams and help you with your bets.
Can The Rams Get Into The Postseason Party?
The Rams have endured a number of disappointments since exploding onto the scene in 2018.
Todd Gurley was once an MVP candidate but now is an injury hazard. Jared Goff was once the quarterback of the future, but now is nothing but a bad contract.
The Rams invested in their team the past two seasons to win now, but after being the runner-up last year, it looks like they are going to miss the playoffs this year.
To their credit, they are playing in one of the toughest divisions in football, but last weekend, the Rams got absolutely stomped by the 6-7 Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon.
Their defense gave up 263 yards rushing to the Cowboys. This bodes terribly for the Rams, as the 49ers love to run the ball with their tandem in the backfield.
The Rams are going to have to find a way to get some stops on Saturday night. While it would not necessarily be shocking if they won, it does not seem likely.
Where Did The Unstoppable 49ers Defense Go?
The 49ers were just coming off one of the most exciting regular-season games in years. They seemed to be on their way to cruising to the No. 1 seed in the NFC, but Atlanta had other plans.
Down late in the game, the Falcons scored 12 unanswered in the waning seconds of the game.
This seemed like a game where San Francisco could let its pass rush take over and sack Matt Ryan multiple times, but the pass rush was non-existent.
Where did the unstoppable 49ers defense go? It was only a couple of weeks ago that we were comparing them to some of the best defenses of all time.
That question might be hard to answer, but they have to figure out themselves offensively if they have any chance at making a run at the Super Bowl.
It seems like the coaching staff is hesitant to hand the keys to Jimmy Garoppolo’s hands. Garoppolo has been exceptional all season long, but the Niners continue to rely on the rushing attack more than anything else.
This has worked well, as they average around 150 yards rushing per game, but they need more explosion with the way that their defense has been regressing.
On the road this game, it is no surprise to find out that the Los Angeles Rams are underdogs. The 49ers take the favorite for this contest at -6.
San Francisco has been the superior team all season long, but it would not surprise me if the Rams showed up for this game and took control early.
After the beatdown that the Rams took last Sunday from the Cowboys, I am going with San Francisco in this game. They need to win to have a chance at the No. 1 seed.
Make sure you lock in your bets for this game before kickoff!
And Happy Holidays!
