2023 NFL Week 1 Odds, Best Bets & Predictions for Key Games

It’s been a long offseason, but the NFL is back this week when the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Detroit Lions to kick off the 2023 NFL season. With that, it also means NFL betting season begins in earnest as punters look to put their money where their mouths are and back up all that talk of how their team will inevitable lift the Lombardi Trophy come February.

With that said, we take a look at some key matchups in the first round of games, some odds for each encounter and the best bet looking at the odds heading into the action.

Detroit Lions @ Kansas City Chiefs Predictions

Kansas City Chiefs

Bet TypeWagerOdds
MoneylineDetroit Lions Win+235
Kansas City Chiefs Win-290
SpreadDetroit Lions +6.5-105
Kansas City Chiefs -6.5-115
Expert Pick:Kansas City Chiefs Win-290

The Chiefs are the betting favorites to retain their firm grip on the AFC and also repeat as Super Bowl champions. Led by superstar Patrick Mahomes, they will always be in the Super Bowl conversation while he is healthy. The Lions are a trendy team to get behind with rugged coach Dan Campbell and play a tough, uncompromising style of football. Although we feel this will be close, we just see the Chiefs edging what should be an exciting opening game.

San Francisco 49ers @ Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions

Bet TypeWagerOdds
MoneylinePittsburgh Steelers Win+118
San Francisco 49ers Win-138
SpreadPittsburgh Steelers +2.5-110
San Francisco 49ers -2.5-110
Expert Pick:San Francisco 49ers Win-138

The 49ers are widely regarded to have one of the best rosters in football. Their summer saw ‘Mr irrelevant’ Brock Purdy win the QB battle following offseason surgery, which sent Trey Lance to the Cowboys via trade. The 49ers are stacked and many pundits are tipping them for glory this season. The Steelers will provide tough opposition on the road led by emerging QB Kenny Pickett, but we fancy the 49ers in this one.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Cleveland Browns Predictions

Bet TypeWagerOdds
MoneylineCleveland Browns Win+114
Cincinnati Bengals Win-134
SpreadCleveland Browns +2.5-110
Cincinnati Bengals -2.5-110
Expert Pick:Cincinnati Bengals Win-134

This divisional battle will see a lot of betting action as legal sports betting is now available in Ohio. There is a lot of mystery surrounding the Browns as Deshaun Watson starts his first full season. The Bengals are among the favorites to win the Super Bowl and enter this game as slight favorites. If Joe Burrow is good to go, we feel they will take the win.

Philadelphia Eagles @ New England Patriots Predictions

Bet TypeWagerOdds
MoneylinePhiladelphia Eagles Win-184
New England Patriots Win+154
SpreadPhiladelphia Eagles -3.5-115
New England Patriots +3.5-115
Expert Pick:Philadelphia Eagles Win-184

This game takes on extra attention as Tom Brady returns to Gillette Stadium for a homecoming. This may rouse the home team Pats as if this was a week 3 game it would be hard to see past an Eagles demolition job. The Eagles agonisingly missed out on the Super Bowl in February, with many expecting them to make a return trip. We think they will begin that quest with success here, despite Brady being in attendance.

New York Jets Win+118
SpreadBuffalo Bills -2.5-110
New York Jets +2.5-110
Expert Pick:New York Jets Win+118

We finish our preview with perhaps the most glamorous of the opening slate of games. In case you have been living under a rock, Aaron Rodgers now calls New York home and alongside his team mates has starred in this year’s Hard Knocks. All eyes will be on Gotham this year to se if the future hall of famer can lead the Jets to the big game. Despite the Bills being led by one of the most talented QB’s in the game in Josh Allen, we feel A-Rod will kickstart his New York Jets career with a famous win on Monday Night Football.
