Shakur Stevenson will be looking to extend his unbeaten professional boxing record when he takes on Edwin de Los Santos this week. The bout will be for the vacant WBC lightweight championship and Stevenson will be looking to become a three-division world champion, cementing himself as one of the best p4p fighters on the planet. Most pundits and fans alike expect Stevenson to come though comfortably at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but with boxing, you never know.
Stevenson vs. Santos Odds
Fighter | Odds (To Win, Moneyline) |
---|---|
Shakur Stevenson | -1300 |
Edwin De Los Santos | +720 |
All of the advantages are with Stevenson and the odds of -1300 highlight that fact. Stevenson will be making the first defence of his lightweight title, while De Los Santos, who has a reputation has a hard hitting fighter, will be challenging for a world title for the first time. Although the challeneger has impressed in his last two bouts, it is a huge step up in class for the 24-year-old from the Dominican Republic.
Stevenson has been collecting the gold over recent years. He captured the vacant BO featherweight title by overwhelming Joet Gonzalez in 2019 and then claimed the WBO super featherweight title by knocking out Jamel Herring in 2021. A more belts were added when he won the WBC and Ring titles by dominating Oscar Valdez in 2022.
The champion now makes the move to lightweight as he goes after the big names in the sport. However, De Los Santos has no intention of allowing that to happen, and despite being a heavy underdog with odds of +720 to cause a huge upset, he firmly believes it is his destiny to be crowned champion.
If you feel Stevenson will win by knockout, you can get odds of +320 while a De Los Santos KO is +880.
Stevenson vs. Santos Prediction
The odds would indicate that this should a simple night’s work for Stevenson, and to be honest, you can see why. There is no doubt De Los Santos carries a lot of power, but he is also a very aggressive fighter, and this may be his undoing against someone as sharp and quick as Stevenson.
Some may feel Stevenson is slightly too risk averse but in this fight he won’t need to take any risks. He has a far higher ring IQ than his opponent and his jab alone should keep the dangerous De Los Santos at bay. Known as a one punch KO artist, De Los Santos will feel he only needs a split second, one opportunity to shock the world but I feel Stevenson is too clever to allow that to happen.
Although Shakur Stevenson isn’t as renowned as name such as Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia or Gervonta Davis, there is no doubt he is as talented as those four. He will be looking to firmly place himself in line for a potential fight with any of those names down the line, and a convincing win will do that.
I feel Stevenson is just too silky and slick for De Los Santos, and I can see him winning by TKO (+320). The fact De Los Santos is so aggressive will mean there will be ample opportunities for Stevenson to land, and I can see the ref calling this one off in the second half of the fight.
