Pennsylvania posts a record sports betting handle in October
The gambling industry in Pennsylvania is thriving and breaking records frequently. In October, the Keystone State set new benchmarks for online casino revenue ($102.9 million), sports betting handle ($776.3 million), and casino revenue ($425.9 million). In October, the casino revenue smashed the previous record – set in July – by more than $2 million. Additionally, the sports betting handle surpassed the prior record of $615.3 million from January, according to information released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
The iGaming revenue in Pennsylvania only just broke the existing record, which was $101.3 million set in May, but it still counts. It was also an increase of 33% from the same month a year ago.
Online poker in PA produced its third-highest revenue month of 2021.
Pennsylvania Gambling Numbers Keep Climbing
The record numbers were a fantastic way to mark the third anniversary of legal PA sports betting. For sports wagering alone, Pennsylvania has now generated more than $10 billion in overall handle. However, the handle was down slightly from the previous month.
Pennsylvania and New Jersey are the only states to post $1 billion in sports betting revenue over a calendar year. According to the figures from October, $714.1 million of the sports bets in Pennsylvania were placed online.
Revenue from online poker decreased 2.4% from September, according to numbers released from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. However, revenue increased 17.8% from the same period last year.
Sports Leagues are Underway
Pennsylvania’s sports betting numbers received a timely boost from the start of the NHL and NBA regular seasons. Both leagues began in October, meaning bettors had more options for wagers.
The start of the NFL and resumption of college football improved September sports betting handles. Eight states managed to post new monthly records, but Pennsylvania was not among that those eight. The start of the NHL and NBA helped push the state to a new monthly high.
November could be another fruitful month. The college basketball regular season is underway, and college football has also moved to weekly games, so there is a football game every weekday. Consequently, bettors have several to wager on their favorite sports.
