PointsBet & NHL Announce New Partnership
The NHL & PointsBet have agreed to a ground-breaking partnership.
Australian-based bookmaker PointsBet has joined forces with the National Hockey League (NHL), which will see the betting operator become an “Official Sports Betting Partner.” In exchange, the deal sees the NHL gain equity in PointsBet. The sportsbook will now have the opportunity to use NHL marks and logos in marketing material. Additionally, PointsBet can integrate content into live NHL broadcasts on NBC Sports and other regional networks, and some of this integration has already started.
Last summer, PointsBet signed a five-year deal to become the official sports betting partner of NBC Sports. According to the terms of that agreement, PointsBet has year-round media and marketing opportunities spanning the NBC Sports platforms, including the Golf Channel, NBCSN, and the various regional sports networks. NBC is the leading broadcast partner of the NHL in the U.S.
Keith Wachtel, NHL chief business officer, mentioned that the sports betting landscape is developing at a “rapid pace.” Due to this, Watchel said it was important that the NHL develops “strategic alliances within the sports gaming industry.” On the deal with PointsBet, Watchel said it brings to life a collaboration with “valued media partners.” He added that the deal was the perfect opportunity to enhance fan engagement and that he was “proud to welcome PointsBet to the NHL family.”

As part of the deal, PointsBet has agreed to issue the NHL 43,106 fully paid ordinary shares. This represents $500,000 based on the 20-day trading volume according to the average price of shares on the Australian Securities Exchange before February 5th. The share price has increased since that date.
Johnny Aitken, CEO of PointsBet USA, said that the company was “thrilled” to be named as an official sports betting partner of the National Hockey League. He described the NHL as “forward-thinking,” with a “captivating” product. Aitken added that they were “excited to further elevate fan engagement” and, due to the agreement, can now offer “the most markets in the world for each NHL game.” PointsBet has joined the list of current NHL official sports betting partners, including BetMGM, William Hill, and FanDuel.
PointsBet Expands in the United States
PointsBet launched in Michigan in January and is currently live in six states. The company is also an official sports betting partner of the Detroit Red Wings. In August, PointsBet signed a deal with another significant international sporting body, the PGA Tour.
Last August, PointsBet became the official and exclusive partner of all professional sports teams and the venue owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment in Colorado. The teams involved include the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, and the Colorado Mammoth from the National Lacrosse League, in addition to the Pepsi Center, where the teams play. Last July, PointsBet became the first company named an official sports betting partner for an MLB team, announcing a deal with the Detroit Tigers.
From the looks of it, there really is no stopping PointsBet as they gather momentum in the US sports betting industry.
