PointsBet to enter Virginia sports betting market
PointsBet Granted Sports Betting License in Virginia
The PointsBet sportsbook is primed to enter another sports betting market, with the brand ready to launch in Virginia. The Australian-based company offers customers a unique sports betting experience thanks to its unique PointsBetting wagering option. The operator revealed this week it has agreed to an exclusive partnership with Colonial Downs Group. Through this partnership and joint application, PointsBet has been granted a temporary supplier license by the Virginia Lottery to provide online sports wagering.
PointsBet Strikes Deal in Virginia
Johnny Aitken, PointsBet USA CEO, said that having the opportunity to offer their “market-leading speed and ease of use and overall in-play excellence” to residents in Virginia is a “great achievement and responsibility.” Aitken added that in conjunction with Colonial Downs, they are proud to team up with the Lottery in Virginia “or our first lottery-regulated market license award.”
Additionally, Aitken stated that the company “couldn’t be more thrilled to further expand our relationship with NBC Sports” and provide bettors in the state “with the sportsbook they’ve been waiting for.”
Colonial Downs Group Chief Operating Officer Aaron Gomes described PointsBet as a “premier sports betting platform” and one of the most successful operators in the country. He said the Colonial Downs Group is “proud” to partner with PointsBet as they have an “excellent reputation.” Gomes stated that they will now work to bring this gaming platform with unique features such as the ‘PointsBetting’ option “to our loyal customers and other gamers in Virginia.”
In August 2020, PointsBet was named as the exclusive sports betting partner for the NBC Sports network. This is noteworthy as the betting operator will use that partnership to promote its presence in Virginia.
PointsBet Continues to Expand
Included in the agreement with NBC Sports is a year-round, multi-platform media and marketing pact. This includes gameday integrations across NBC Sports Washington, which is the broadcast home to the Washington Capitals and Wizards.
While this partnership is huge for PointsBet, the brand is also legal to operate in numerous other states, including sports wagering in Colorado, where its headquarters are located in the United States.
PointsBet also agreed to a significant deal in October 2020 with Genius Sports. This deal gives the betting operator access to live streaming on games in addition to access to data that allowed bettors to make live bets.
