The San Francisco 49ers will be on the road to take on the Seattle Seahawks for a chance at a first-round bye for both of these teams. The loser of this game will be demoted to the fifth seed in the NFC.
This is one of the most important games of the weekend, and as such, it has been flexed to the Sunday Night Football spot.
It is winner-take-all for the division crown, so let’s break down the matchup between these two and help you determine your best bets.
Has The San Francisco Defense Finally Been Exposed?
It’s been a couple of weeks since the 49ers defense has looked like the dominant force we saw at the beginning of the season.
If you had told me one of the quarterbacks was running for his life all game in their last matchup against the Rams, I would have guessed it was Jared Goff.
Well, it wasn’t, as Jimmy Garoppolo was pressured for the entire game.
Now, credit to the 49ers overall, as they pulled out a victory in that game and really played well offensively despite the strong pass rush from Los Angeles.
If the 49ers want a chance to win against Seattle, they need to re-establish themselves in their pass rush and look to run the ball heavily. They had so much success early in the season on the ground, and they need to get back to that formula.
Garoppolo has looked like one of the best quarterbacks all season long, and I think he can have a big day against the soft Seattle defense.
In this winner-take-all matchup, the 49ers have a chance to prove that they are real Super Bowl contenders.
Seahawks Struggling At Wrong Time
Boy, Seattle does not look too good right now. They make me the most nervous heading into the postseason.
They matched up against the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend and got absolutely stomped in all areas of the game.
Kenyan Drake had another big day on the ground for the Cardinals, and the Seahawks could not stop anything that was thrown at them.
Russell Wilson was once looking like the MVP of the regular season, but in these last couple of weeks, he has fallen back to Earth.
Unfortunately for the Seahawks, they lost Chris Carson for the rest of the season, and now they have signed Marshawn Lynch.
It will be interesting to see what Lynch still has in the tank after his retirement from Oakland last season. He will be suiting up for this game, so maybe Lynch can be the spark plug at home that the Seahawks need to get over the hump one last time.
Wilson really needs to find himself in this last week of the regular season. A win here means a playoff bye, and that could be just what they need to recharge for a run at the title.
The 49ers draw the favorite in this game at -3. Home dogs have performed well all season long, and I think the Seahawks will have a chance in this one.
Without Carson, it will be tough for the Seahawks. I think they will get behind early and will struggle to get up that mountain.
I’m taking Garoppolo and the 49ers to lock themselves in as the number one overall seed in the NFC with a road victory here. Make sure you put your bets in before Sunday night’s kickoff!
