Iowa Market Going from Strength to Strength
Iowa removed their in-person registration requirement at the beginning of January. Following that decision, the state has begun 2021 setting records in the mobile handle, total sports betting handle, and monthly revenue.
In January, the total sports betting handle in Iowa was $149.5 million, an increase of 42.7% from December’s $104.8 million. Regarding a year-on-year comparison, January 2021 was a 157% increase from January 2020 ($58 million).
Iowa has now set a new record for sports wagering in five consecutive months. Additionally, the Hawkeye State has topped $100 million in total handle for the second straight month. The records are likely to continue to fall in 2021 as more online sportsbooks enter the market. BetMGM, BetRivers, William Hill, and PointsBet are the latest apps to launch with people still able to register remotely.
