There is finally some sports back on TV with the return of UFC this weekend.
Amid the panic and uncertainty surrounding major sport across the globe during the global pandemic, UFC president Dana White has been determined to stage an event. After he proposed the idea initially, it was scrapped. Now, it is back on again, and what a card it is! It has led to UFC some pundits co claim it is one of the most stacked in the history of the sport. This is highlighted by the fact that Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis are placed on the *prelims*. You know you are in for some night if that fight isn’t taking center stage.
Although White wanted to stage this on a private island, that hasn’t come to fruition. Instead, the card will take place at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Florida, which will host a PPV and two Fight Night’s in the space of seven hectic days for the sport.
The main event will see Tony Ferguson take on Justin Gaethje in an interim title lightweight title fight. There were rumors Ferguson would fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he had to pull out due to travel restrictions. Gaethje was the next best option for White. This fight is set to be a cracker from two men who only know how to fight one way – coming forward and taking the fight to their opponent.
The second title fight of the evening sees Henry Cejudo defend his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz, and like Tony Ferguson, he will need to adjust to a change in opponent after Jose Aldo pulled out for a similar reason to Khabib.
Other fights on the card include box-office heavyweight Francis Ngannou take on Jairzinho Rozenstruik. One of the most terrifying heavyweight’s in UFC has won his last three bouts in a combined time of 2 minutes and 22 seconds. He beat Cain Velasquez in 26 seconds, Curtis Blaydes in 45 seconds, and then Junior dos Santos in a less impressive time of 1 minute 11 seconds.
The Cerrone V Pettis fight would usually take place on the main card of a PPV; however, this is no ordinary card, and Dana White is spoiling fans by putting on this showcase bout on the prelims. These pair met in 2013, where Pettis won in round one. Cerrone later admitted that his liver had been “kicked out of his body.”
It is set to be a bumper night, and bettors will have plenty of opportunities to make some wagers. bet365 has an Open Account Offer available to new customers.
