WynnBET Sportsbook given OK to launch in Louisiana
According to Louisiana’s top gaming regulator, another online gaming operator has been approved to operate in the state. Ronnie Johns, chairman of the state Gaming Control Board, said that the WynnBET Sportsbook Louisiana got the green light this month. The Las Vegas-based bookmaker was not included in the list of operators in the state’s February sports betting revenue report.
According to its website, WynnBET is now operating in New York, New Jersey, Louisiana, Colorado, Arizona, Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, and Tennessee.
Sports betting generates millions in revenue
Since online sports betting launched on January 28, the mobile sports wagering handle has topped $251.5 million. This incorporated four days of online betting in January. February was the first entire month of legal mobile sports betting in the Bayou State. Sports betting is permitted in the 55 of 64 parishes that voted to approve the activity in a 2020 statewide vote.
According to recently released figures, the six online operators running a site in Louisiana took in more than $211 million in bets during February. After winning players were paid, the bookmakers recorded a net gain of over $7.6 million in February. The state collected over $2.2 million in taxes from mobile betting.
Retail sports betting surpassed $27 Million in February
Looking at the February figures, the Gaming Control Board released the numbers for in-person sports wagering inside casinos and racinos for the month. The 13 properties reported over $27 million in sports bets. Once winning players were paid, the properties earned a combined $642,663.
In January, retail sportsbooks reported a handle of over $49 million, with a combined net win that surpassed $5.3 million. The numbers in January were higher in part because the month had five weekends, compared to four weekends in February.
