PointsBet Sportsbook Launches in Louisiana
PointsBet sportsbook has officially launched in Louisiana. The Bayou State becomes the 12th state that the PointsBet sportsbook will be available for bettors in the US.
PointsBet CEO Johnny Aitken said that the sports community of Louisiana is “unmatched with their devotion and passion for their local teams.” Those teams include the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans and the NFL’s New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees, a legend who led the Saints to a Super Bowl victory in 2010 over the Indianapolis Colts, is a brand ambassador for PointsBet. Aitken added that they are looking forward to delivering their product to Louisiana sports fans, hoping to maximize the opportunity with the NFL and CFB seasons in full swing.
PointsBet had a Ringing of the Bell ceremony in Louisiana to mark the launch. Schiaraldi Laferriere, Director of Product Marketing, was there to celebrate the occasion.
PointsBet gained market access to Louisiana via its partnership with Penn National Gaming. This is the fourth state for PointsBet to launch, along with Penn. Louisiana joins Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia as states offering the PointsBet online sportsbook.
PointsBet Withdraws Partnership with Sunday Night Football & NBC
Although PointsBet has stated that it is committed to expanding across the United States, this has come at the expense of a significant partnership. This is because the sports betting brand withdrew its partnership with Sunday Night Football and NBC last week.
PointsBet is moving away from national advertising because it wants to refine its marketing strategy to focus on more local/regional markets. However, this new direction comes with a cost; by essentially removing itself from the NFL, the company is no longer permitted to advertise during football games or any other NFL broadcast. BetMGM has stepped in to replace PointsBet as the new betting sponsor.
PointsBet did reveal a few weeks ago that it has signed a deal with Front Office Sports to start a betting newsletter to expand its presence in the US and attract new bettors. The newsletter will be sent to around one million subscribers on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday.
