DRF Sportsbook Review
The Daily Racing Form (DRF) is one of the oldest sports and betting companies in the United States. Over the decades, it has somewhat lost its place in the whirlpool of online sports betting sites. Sidelined and overlooked for more modern sportsbooks.
Rather than staying on the margins, DRF has upped its game to keep in sync with the times. In recent years, the company has invested in developing its proprietary online sports betting platform to enable a quick gateway for its dedicated horse racing fans.
DRF has come a long way since its inception. Currently, it offers sports betting markets for 16 sports categories and a variety of bet types that, while not quite on par with more established online sportsbooks, are praiseworthy.
We composed this DRF sportsbook review to provide a close evaluation of its standout features, sports bonus offers, and market coverage. We will briefly discuss the implemented security protocols, banking options, mobile experience, user interface, and customer support to give you a full view.

Overview of DRF Sportsbook
The Daily Racing Form historically traces its roots to the late 18th century. It started as a racing newspaper based in Chicago, Illinois, in 1894. Since then, DRF has undergone several mergers and shake-ups, being sold and resold to various companies. The years 2021 and 2022 marked two milestones in the development of DRF as a digital sportsbook. It was in this period when DRF Sportsbook and DRF Bets went live in Iowa, respectively.
Currently, the DRF online sportsbook and racebook are available only to residents based in the Hawkeye State, where the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission regulates it. There’s been no indication that DRF intends to expand its operation in other states yet.
For those based in Iowa, this might be one of the most convenient betting options. It welcomes Iowans with multiple sports bonuses and a rewards program for horse racing betting fans via DRF Bets. Odds boosts, profit boosts, bonus bet bonus offers, bet credits, loyalty cashback, and a first deposit bonus are a few of the ongoing promotions.
You can claim a first deposit bonus on a minimal investment of just $10. The narrow choice of payment methods is a bit of a snag. The available withdrawal methods are a DRF Play+ (prepaid card), PayPal, or online banking via Trustly. As for deposits, you can transfer funds using e-checks, credit cards, PayPal, PayNearMe, and Wire Transfers.
DRF’s IT department and developer team have skillfully answered the cry of a market in demand for high-speed cross-platform betting. The software is mobile-optimized using the latest mobile markup languages and compatible with all mobile operating systems to enable smooth web-based mobile navigation. For a more streamlined mobile experience, you can download one of the mobile apps: an iOS DRF sportsbook app, an Android sportsbook app, or an iOS and Android horse racing app available for free on the App Store and Play Store, respectively
Availability of DRF Sportsbook Bonus Offers
Somewhat to my surprise, DRF sportsbook, while lagging behind its competitors in betting markets and features, has an enviable bonus page. In my appraisal of this site over a few weeks, I noticed its tendency to release sports bonuses for major tournaments and ahead of anticipated sports events in soccer, football, basketball, hockey, and college sports.
Sports offers can expire and be replaced based on the conclusion of ongoing and commencement of new seasons and tournaments. To give you an idea of DRF Sportsbook’s bonus offer, I will run through a few of the offers available at the time of writing.
You can claim a new customer bonus offer on a minimum deposit of $10. This minimum deposit bonus provides up to $300 in bonus funds in addition to a $25 bet credit. You must be 21 and Iowa-based to be eligible. In the meantime, DRF Bets, a sister site of DRF Sportsbook covering US and international horse races, offers up to $200 as a betting bonus when you join. Note, however, that you may need to sign into the separate DRF Bets App or website to grab this offer.
Profit boosts and DRF Specials are your best companions if you bet actively. Profit boosts are usually sport-specific, and their value varies. Also, these bonuses typically apply to specified types of bets, such as parlays or same-game parlays (SGP). For instance, creating a college basketball parlay can activate a 10% profit boost. DRF also provides SGP boosts when you bet on select soccer and hockey events. The boosts are valued between 10% and 20% of your potential profit.
The rewards (loyalty) program makes DRF Sportsbook a contender for the shortlist of top US online betting sites. DRF Bets (the online horse racebook that is a subset of DRF) awards convertible loyalty points, which can be exchanged for bonus bet credits or other perks. If you meet the monthly wagering thresholds (specified on the official DRF Bets Rewards page), you can become eligible for bet coupons between $20 and $100. Depending on your status, you can earn weekly cashback, free CC deposits, a DRF Plus Pro subscription, and DRF Store Cash.
Features of the DRF Betting Site
Sportsbook features encompass an eclectic variety of on-site tools, promotions, and responsible gambling features that can greatly improve the user experience (UX). Live betting is the gold standard of all modern online sportsbooks. DRF Sportsbook offers a live betting lobby, albeit with a limited selection of live odds. More to its deficit, there is no live-streaming channel to accompany the live betting feature.
The bet slip is quite configurable, and you can create single bets or combined tickets. You can edit the bet amount by tapping the amount and typing in your preferred bet size. You will notice the Live Right Now section and the Starting Soon tab in the left-hand side menu. If you click on the latter, you can monitor upcoming events up to 24 hours in advance. This gives you a chance to catch early odds before they inevitably change.
I consider parlays and same-game parlays valuable betting assets. They expand your betting options and allow you to combine two or more bets on the same ticket for a greater combined payout. SGPs and parlay bets on DRF often feature exclusive profit boosts for specific sports. All profit and odds boost promos applicable to SGPs and parlays are featured on the homepage.
DRF also provides you with helpful resources and tools for safe gambling. It allows you to activate deposit limits, session limits, single bet limits, and spending limits. Moreover, you can take a cool-off period in accordance with customer support and receive pop-up notifications, reminding you of your betting activity in case you lose track.
The ‘Account History’ is another useful item in DRF’s toolbox. Sign in and tap the ‘Account’ button, and review your betting history and transactions on a particular date.
Supported Payment Methods
When it comes to banking options, DRF hits a wall. While you can easily get used to the available methods, the choice is too limited. Experience has told me that the more options you have, the more personalized decisions you can make, which inevitably leads to a better experience. After all, not every e-payment service is the same, and you should be able to choose more suitable options. But you can’t do that if there are no other options.
DRF supports email, phone, and wire transfers via credit and debit cards, e-checks, PayPal, Wire Transfer, and PayNearMe. Online bank transfers support deposits and withdrawals, but the cash-out options on DRF are quite restricted. They include Bank Transfers, check withdrawals, and PayPal. The latter two options incur flat fees of $17 and $1, respectively.
Non-authorized credit/debit cards have a $1,500 weekly transfer limit. There is a $5 flat fee for using credit/debit cards, on top of the likely fee your bank will charge. Withdrawals take between 2, and up to 72 hours before they reach your bank account. Many factors can affect the withdrawal time, but if your account is verified, the withdrawal form is properly filled out, and you comply with DRF’s banking and bonus rules, your money will reach you with minimal delay.

Reminder: DRF Sportsbook’s security team will likely conduct an identity or card verification check on your first withdrawal. You can reverse your cash-out request so long as the security team has not yet processed and approved it.
DRF Sportsbook Odds and Betting Markets
I’ve been betting since I can remember, and finding the best odds has not always been my priority. Only later did I realize this gap in my approach to betting. Odds fluctuations are common. Yet, not all sportsbooks provide synchronized line adjustments. Using this small window to lock onto favorable lines can be quite fruitful in the long run by adding a little extra boost to your payouts.
But finding the best odds is taxing work. It requires creating separate accounts at multiple sportsbook sites and actively monitoring your go-to betting markets to catch the best odds. DRF Sportsbook Iowa is in tune with the market standard with competitive odds and an eclectic choice of bets on all major sports. It features almost every sports betting market imaginable, albeit with a narrower selection of proposition bets compared to other major US operators. However, this minor deficit does not diminish the DRF Sportsbook website market coverage.
The odds on sports like American football, soccer, hockey, basketball, golf, and baseball are in line with the industry standard. In some cases, I caught better lines (by no more than half a point margin) for soccer and hockey games compared to major competitors like FanDuel or Caesars Sportsbook. The dedicated release of odds boosts, profit boosts, and DRF Specials place the company in the upper echelon of the sportsbook top betting sites in Iowa.
Security and Legitimacy
DRF operates under strict security standards and takes the necessary precautions to safeguard against common threats. These include cybersecurity threats like account fraud, data breaches, money laundering, and other forms of fraud. It has implemented measures to protect both the company’s and the player’s interests.
Encrypted SSL security – the standard cryptographic protocol employed by thousands of websites – safeguards data exchange between the consumer and the operator. DRF is partnered with established e-payment vendors that provide robust internal security. Additionally, the mandatory account verification protocols and 2FA (two-factor authentication), annoying as they may be, ensure that you and you alone have access to your account.
Hundreds of offshore betting sites and gambling platforms without regional licenses (or any licenses) cater to players in the US. You must be extra careful where you play. A dubious or unregulated offshore operator won’t guarantee your security, and an authorized regulator in Iowa can’t sort out any unsettled dispute you might have with your sportsbook.
But DRF’s credibility is cemented. Alongside being overseen by the IRGC, it is affiliated with a land-based casino – Lakeside Hotel and Casino. The partnership ascertains DRF’s legitimacy and reputation in the local gaming community.
Customer Support at DRF Sportsbook
DRF provides wide-ranging player support. But let’s start with the basics: means of contact. The DRF email service can assist you with problems related to your account or sending verification documents. Additionally, you can message the email department if you wish to self-exclude, close your account, or discuss a more elaborate problem.
The live chat feature is a click away, positioned at the bottom right corner. You can easily initiate conversations with a support assistant and you’ll receive prompt answers. A help center (FAQs) provides quick answers to some of the most common issues. These include banking, responsible play, account management, and technical support.
What I liked in particular were the dedicated beginners’ guides. When you land on the DRF homepage, scroll to the bottom of the website. Tap the ‘Get Started’ tab, and you can follow the registration guide to make sure you don’t make any missteps when opening an account. Next to the registration guide, you’ll see the Betting Guide. It provides full-scope explanations of the accepted forms of betting and a catalog of the available types of bets and sports.
If you have a complaint, you can take it up with the DRF support team. If the issue persists and worsens, the American Arbitration Association will get involved to broker a compromise.
Mobile Experience
The iOS and Android sports betting and horse betting apps add to a well-rounded and streamlined mobile experience. DRF’s developers have neatly re-touched the browser-based software and translated it into a compact mobile app. The sports betting and racing apps are free and take up very little space in your storage.
The Android or iOS apps did not lag or crash during our mobile tests. But our Android and iOS test devices were high-end. I recommend you install all software updates on older models to ensure optimum functionality. A weak internet signal might disrupt your activity.
The applications are highly rated in their respective stores, except for the iOS DRF Sportsbook app. For some reason, the app has only about 30 user reviews, so the generated rating is not realistic.
Exploring DRF’s List of Available Sports
You don’t have to read any articles related to DRF to familiarize yourself with the book’s sports catalog. Open the DRF URL, and you’ll see the sports index front and center. But also to your left. Everywhere you look, you can see sports categorized by popularity, number of ongoing events, or alphabetical order.
There are more than 15 sports betting categories. Soccer, football, hockey, golf, baseball, rugby, motorsports, and basketball are a few of the standard fixtures. The sports list is divided into two parts. The first part lists the top tournaments and leagues in soccer, football, golf, basketball, baseball, boxing, and motorsports in the left-side menu. Right underneath, you will see about 16 tabs for all available sports. While the sportsbook provides extensive coverage, it is missing an eSports section. The company should consider improving this, given the global popularity of eSports.
User Interface and Design
I can tell you from the get-go that the browser-based version works better on desktop than on mobile. Navigation on desktop is simple and seamless due to the wider screens of laptop and desktop computers. The sports categories are orderly laid out, and the top events are positioned in view in the middle of the screen.
By contrast, the mobile browser design is crammed with betting markets, short textual explanations, and promotional ads. The small font size makes navigation even more awkward. For what it’s worth, the packed screen doesn’t lag or buffer, nor are there any loading delays when you switch between pages.
You’ll instantly notice the difference when you launch the mobile app for the first time after playing on the DRF web-based sportsbook. The on-site content is purged of unnecessary items, while the layout and interface remain somewhat the same. I can’t exactly put my finger on it, but I feel more comfort and relief using the iOS app. The Android DRF app has a similarly agreeable interface and performs as expected.
Where is DRF Sportsbook Legal?
Bought and sold multiple times over the course of a century, DRF launched its online operation in September 2021. DRF Bets set up shop after several months in January of 2022. The DRF sportsbook legit status is proven and certified by its partnership with Lakeside Hotel and Casino.
The DRF sportsbook brand currently accepts only players in Iowa. But you don’t need to be a resident of the Hawkeye State to bet here. You must be physically located in the state, even if you reside elsewhere, and it will grant you access. Only Iowa-based players aged 21 or older are eligible for the DRF sports welcome bonus, making it quite exclusive. Up to $300 match on the initial deposit, plus the $25 bonus bet on the side, gives you plenty of arsenal for your betting sessions.
Account Signup and Registration Process
Opening a DRF betting account can be done in a few steps.
- Visit the official DRF Sportsbook website and tap the yellow ‘Register’ button.
- Select a bonus (optional), provide your email, and create a unique password. Tap ‘Continue.’
- Provide your full name, date of birth, social security number, and home address.
- Select the box to enable two-factor authentication and your preferred channel for receiving promotional material (SMS or email).
- Select ‘Submit’ and proceed to account verification.
- After verifying your account, the next logical step is to choose a payment method and submit your first deposit.
- You can now create your first bet slip. Good luck!
Final Verdict
The flat PayPal fee, limited cash-out options, and awkward mobile navigation when using a web browser are negligible drawbacks. By weighing the flaws against the positives and assessing their impact on the user experience, our review team concluded that DRF is not that different from the best sportsbooks on the market.
Every betting operator has imperfections. It is only when those imperfections have a strong impact on the betting experience that we raise a warning sign. But DRF more than compensates with its betting market variety and smooth-running mobile apps.
The bonus variety stacks up well against the competition. In some regards, the bonuses are even better compared to what established online books offer. The lack of live streams is another light hit any user can take. The 24/7 customer support team responds almost instantly on live chat and replies within 24 hours by email.
All things considered, DRF comes highly recommended for Iowa-based sports and horse racing bettors. If the moment comes for the company to expand to other states, certain improvements are required to endure in an uncompromisingly competitive industry.
